Probably my first post on Michel Aoun ever. So I’d rather keep it short–draft-style.
Yesterday, Wednesday morning, March 15, 2011: Election of the 77th Maronite Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Rai (b. 1940).
It’s the talk of the town, or should I say, the talk of the country. National event… save for Michel Aoun, who had scheduled a press conference in the afternoon to address… “the weapons of the Resistance (Hizbullah).”
My statement on this:
(Regardless of whether you like Michel Aoun or not…)
I repeat: Who the hell cares about “the weapons of the Resistance” on such a day, a few hours after the election of a new Maronite Patriarch?!
Do the Maronites care? No. The press conference was out of context.
Do Aoun’s supporters care? No. They already know what he thinks (= they think).
Do the Shi’is care? What for, it’s useless: the Sayyed has already said all this, only better than Aoun.
The Sunnis obviously didn’t care 😉
(Don’t ask me about the Druze.)
And, eventually, less than a one-minute comment by Aoun on the patriarchal election.
Again, regardless of whether you like him or not, we need to admit that we could have done without this press conference.
